Lufthansa and Eurowings Discover update 02 December 2021

The Lufthansa Group remains committed to offering their customers regular commercial flights to/from South Africa and Namibia and maintaining these important lifeline flights, even during these unprecedented times.

Due to South Africa and Namibia being classified by the German Robert Koch Institute as Areas of Variant of Concern, the entry regulations for Germany have been revised by the German Authorities.

Therefore, only the following travelers may enter Germany when traveling from South Africa or Namibia:

German nationals and their immediate family members

Holders of German resident permits

In principle, all other nationalities may transit through Germany to a destination outside of Germany, however, the entry regulations for the country of final destination must be observed. In accordance with these regulations, the Lufthansa Group will continue offering our customers the following commercial Lufthansa and Eurowings Discover flights to/from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Windhoek respectively:

Furthermore, based on the current entry regulations which have been implemented by the Swiss Federal authorities, (see: TravelCheck) the following travellers may enter Switzerland when travelling from South Africa or Namibia:

• Nationals of Switzerland and EEA members states, as well as their immediate families
• Residents of Switzerland and Liechtenstein
• Residents of Schengen Member states, returning to their country of residence
• Holders of a Visa Type D for Switzerland
• Holders of a Certificate of Entry (Laissez-Passer) issued by a Swiss Representation abroad

Transit through Switzerland onward to a Schengen destination is permitted, however, the entry regulations for the country of final destination must be observed. All non-Schengen transits through Switzerland are not permitted. In accordance with these regulations, the Lufthansa Group will continue offering our customers the following commercial Swiss and Edelweiss flights to/from Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively:

Guests travelling to or via Germany are advised to observe all the mandatory entry regulations and requirements prior to embarking on their journey.
