UK stops all flights from South Africa effective immediately
Britain has placed South Africa (and Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia) on the red list effective today after scientists raised the alarm over a new COVID-19 variant.
From midday, today, commercial and private flights are banned from the six countries until hotel quarantine is up and running from 4 am Sunday 28 November.
What this means for travellers:
1. Anyone with a flight booked to the UK from South Africa from today until 28 November will have to reschedule their flights.
2. UK and Ireland residents who have been in these countries in the last 10 days, and make it home between midday on Friday and 04h00 on Sunday, 28 November must quarantine at home for 10 days.
3. Passengers arriving in the UK from 4am Sunday will be required to book and pay for a government-approved hotel quarantine facility for 10 days.
